Born and raised in the Rocky Mountains, I moved to the Pacific Northwest with my husband and young son in 1977. My work as an artist reflects my love for the natural world that God created, as well as local and foreign travel, buildings and wooden boats. My family and I have spent summer weeks boating through the San Juan and Gulf Islands. The serenity and breathtaking beauty of these voyages provide a common theme for many of my paintings. The painting above was inspired from the countryside around my Mom's home town of Dove Creek, Colorado.
My creative interests have colored my life choices
from the time I was small. I have been interested in art and calligraphy since I
was a young girl, majored in Interior Design in my early college years, and
received a degree in Graphic Design many years later. Although much of my life
has been devoted to parenting our three children, now grown and two of them
married with children of their own, I have also found time for a variety of
work opportunities that reflect my gifts in creative design. I have worked as a
commercial artist for a national newspaper, a draftsman and drafting instructor
for an engineering firm, have contributed to local arts and crafts fairs, worked more recently as a graphic designer, and have painted wall murals in an orphanage in Port au Prince, Haiti. I have transitioned from the
fine detail work of engineered drawings to the exploration of light, color and
texture in my sketches, printmaking, and paintings in watercolor and acrylics.
While my inspiration comes from my travels and the natural world around me, my motivation to create and share my work with others comes from my love for God, the Creator of all, His daily provision and guidance in my life. This is the quiet under-current in each of my works.
